Let’s get started! Let our designers help you in the process to helping you achieve your Edible Oasis and garden goals.

Step 1: Schedule a Consultation

Up to 120 MINUTES

Remote Standard / $175

In-Person Standard / $200

On Island 35-60 miles away/ $250

During a consultation, we meet with you and get an overview for the property you have. We talk about what your goals are for the property; what you’re excited to do or learn; your food preferences; how much time you have to devote to working on maintaining your space, your timeline for the work you want completed, etc. On the walk through of your property, we’ll review the soil, sun, water, zones of use, obstacles and opportunities.

Working with Kelly as our landscape designer and installer was a pleasure from start to finish. Communication was consistently excellent — she listened and responded promptly and clearly. The design opened our eyes to new plants and how the plants work together in a total design. The only issue has been some deer nibbling when the protective barriers around the plants fell over in the wind, but Kelly was quick to come up with a solution and willing to make an extra trip to fix them. We’re excited to see how the plantings grow in the spring.

Step 2: Design Work

BASIC DESIGN Flat fee of $300 for less than 1,000 Sq Ft

ADVANCE DESIGN Rate varies of $1000+ for more than 1,000 Sq Ft

All design work is really specific to the site but these are starting prices for work. Design work is actually one of the more thoughtful steps. It’s where all the problem solving happens and where dreams and reality meet. Basic designs are suitable for Edible Oasis owners who are ready to dive into a project. It’s also more ideal for our residential clients. If larger scale work or design work where you want a more detail idea of what an install might look like sounds right to you, Advanced Design work may suit you as a client better. Advanced Designs are also better suited for community or governmental facilities where a group or team has input on a project. Design work includes a detailed estimate plant, shrub, tree and supply inventory that is up to date and current so clients can source plants as soon as the project is submitted to them.

Working with Hopeful Roots for garden design was a transformative experience. Kelly was able to capture the essence of what I was hoping to create and bring it to life! She is professional, communicative, and detail-oriented. Mahalo for the beautiful sketches and plan!

Step 3: Installation

SPECIFIC TO DESIGN WORK & SITE

Every project is different. Our install work matches the agreed upon design for your Edible Oasis. You will get an estimate with your design work of what it will cost to complete the project. Then you can make decisions about whether to do the project in phases, all at once or whether you want to include certain components in your install. Again, here we get locally based plants the best we can. There are a few native nurseries in our area and we do utilize them as frequently as we can. After your edible oasis is complete, you will get a quick guide brochure of how to maintain the plants. Plants are also covered under insurance for one year.

We will contact you within 3 months, 6 months and a year to see how the process is going for you.

Step 4: Garden Coaching or Individual Stewardship plan

FIND THE PLAN THAT FITS YOU BEST

BASIC $720 - SIX 90 Minute LESSONS

INTERMEDIATE $1,200 - TWELVE 90 Minute LESSONS

ADVANCED $4,000 - TWENTY 90-120 Minute LESSONS

IN PERSON or REMOTE (You choose)

Each individual Stewardship plan is developed with you and your family as the learners in mind. Want to learn how to make jam or preserves with the berry bushes you planted? Want to inoculate your own mushroom logs? How do you cook that Jersualem artichoke? How do you trim those fruit trees best? How can you incorporate a permaculture mindset into what you do? These and many more questions will be answered when you opt for an ISP or Individual Stewardship Plan. Again this plan is individualized toward your own learning and the plants that you’re maintaining. Together we will help you develop the skills to empower you to become self-sustaining. Hours and time are set by you. These are individual lessons. However, if you want to join any of the workshops that are offered you will find a different rate listed. Look out for dates and postings.

INDIVIDUAL - $150 - 90 minute LESSON

The garden is doing well - last summer I added some wild bergamot and wood aster, and tiger moths ate our milkweed down to the stems (bummer). I also divided a few of the larger hostas and added more along the little gravel walkway we have to the backyard. I’ve tried different herbs in the herb section, which often inspires me to seek out ways to use them.

I had a fabulous experience working virtually with you. You gave me confidence to build a native garden, and also to continue adding to it on my own. It’s pretty low maintenance, which is awesome. I would absolutely recommend it for people who have an interest in developing their own knowledge, skills, and confidence.

Step 5: Garden Sitting & Maintenance

Garden Sitting Daily Rate $50-100 - depending on size of garden within 40 minutes

Seasonal Pruning $50 - per hour within 40 minutes

Orchard Management Spraying $75-100

KNF Sprays. $75-100 depending on size of area

We want you to see you be successful with growing your own food. The early years are the most sensitive for your fruit trees, shrubs and plants while they establish their root systems. Going out of town? Let us watch the garden for you. We will water, weed, harvest and save the fruits of your labor so you don’t miss a beet!

I contacted Hopeful Roots less than a week before going out of town and Kelly’s response was immediate. We scheduled a meeting for two days later where she came over and walked through my watering routine. I felt confident leaving my plants in her care and when I returned I couldn’t believe how wonderful they looked! She watered, pruned and harvested on an as-needed basis, was continually communicative while I was away, and her services were reasonably priced and worth every penny! I will absolutely work with Hopeful Roots again and highly recommend their services.
